Periodos de muda del copetón, (Zonotrichia Capensis) en el Jardín Botánico de Bogotá, Colombia

Abstract

Sistematic trapping of a population of Andean Sparrow (Zonotrichia capensis) in the Bogota Botanical Carden (4° 40' N) over a 2-year period showed that there were two peak of initiation of moult, one in March and the other in July, i. e. separated by 4 and 8 months. The first peak coincided with the beginning of the March-May rainy season, and the second came in the middle of the relatively dry period separating the two rainy seasons. These results are compared with those obtained by Miller, who found that, near Cali (3° 30' N), Z. capensis has two peak of moult separed by 5 and 7 months. Further studies are needed to show the timing of moult cycles of this species at other latitudes in Colombia.
