Native ichthyofauna habitat in an ecological rehabilitation area in Sabana de Bogotá

Abstract
Strategies to enhance habitat quality for the native ichthyofauna in a stream and a wetland were examined and executed as part of an ecological rehabilitation project in Sabana de Bogotá, Eastern Cordillera, Colombia. Vegetation was planted in the riparian zone, and direct interventions were conducted in the watercourses. Based on the results, it is suggested that broader socio-economic and ecosystem aspects should be considered beforehand to improve water quality. It is also suggested that a combination of active and passive restoration strategies is required to ensure the reestablishment of riparian vegetation. The Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) is projected as an appropriate model to monitor the species and site responses to the implemented actions.
