Abstract

The transformation processes of the natural ecosystems of the middle basin of the Tunjuelo river were interpreted by modelling the ideal state of its vegetation -based on the structure of its original ecosystem- compared with its current situation. The results obtained show that 54 per cent of the natural ecosystem has been transformed and that just 24 per cent remains in its original state of conservation, including plant communities of forest, paramo, riparian vegetation, scrubs and subxerophytic grasses, which are important to sustain the local and regional biodiversity.
