Sexual and vegetative propagation of Saurauia scabra (Kunth) D.Dietr, a neotropical mountain forest species of potential use

Abstract

This work was made in the Botanic Garden José Celestino Mutis, located in Bogotá, D.C., Cundinamarca. To 4° 40' 24" north latitude and 74° 06' 14.5" west longitude, to 2551 m, with a precipitation annual average of 13 mm. The experimental period was included between the 14 of august and the 15 of December of 2006. This work tried to evaluate the efficiency as soon as propagation of S. scabra being used the methods of vegetative and sexual propagation. In the sexual propagation environmental factors were evaluated like temperature, amount of light, humidity of the substrate and depth of sowing; in the vegetative propagation it was evaluated what auxina –NAA or IBA– and what type of explant it favors like a more efficient way of the rooting of these. As result we found that it is more advisable the use of lignificated explants together with IBA 1000 ppm or NAA 500 ppm, for the asexual propagation of Saurauia scabra also it was possible to be determined that the seeds germinate satisfactorily in natural condition of temperature, with good humidity of the substrate –40 per cent to 50 per cent–, seeded superficially and with good conditions of illumination.
