Evaluation of micro-propagation through in vitro tissue culture of two species of passion flowers (Passiflora popenovii Killip y Passiflora edulis Sims)

Abstract

Passiflora popenovii Killip and Passiflora edulis Sims are species with promissory fruits of an enormous agroalimentary importance. P. popenovii has not been studied, and shows a wide range of problems related to its commercial production. P. edulis presents phytosanitary problems, complicating its management and exportation on a big scale. The main goal of this research was to develop a polyclonal propagation system of high genetic and phytosanitary standards, by means of in vitro tissue culture of nodal and foliar sections from two different species, testing AIA and kinetin effects for the creation of a protocol of micro propagation. P. popenovii developed galls, callus plant sprout on nodal sections by effect of 0.5 ppm. AIA and 0.5; 1 and 1.5 ppm. kinetin. Media supplemented with 0.5 ppm. AIA and 1.5 ppm. kinetin stimulated plant sprout regeneration in active explants around week 12, and in media without growth regulators callus and plant sprout were obtained. The induction of soma tic morphogenesis from foliar sections was favored by 0.5 ppm. AIA and 0.5 ppm. kinetin. P. edulis produced massive proliferation of callus from foliar sections, under the effect of 1.5 ppm. kinetin, 0.5 ppm. AIA, MS medium and Nitsch & Nitsch salts; besides an efficient organogenic development from nodal sections induced under the effect of MS medium, supplemented with Nitsch & Nitsch salts.
