In 1985, because of the efforts of biologists Gustavo Morales, Orlando Vargas y César Escallón, the Bogotá Botanical Garden published the first volume (three issues) of its scientific journal Pérez-Arbelaezia, as a space for the dissemination of unpublished works of basic and applied research in botany, economic botany, species biology, and the ecology of high Andean and paramo ecosystems, directed at the scientific and academic community, researchers, students and others interested in topics related to the national flora. Its name honors the memory of Enrique Pérez Arbeláez (1896-1972), Jesuit priest, scientist, educator and writer from Antioquia, considered the father of ecology in Colombia and founder of the Bogotá Botanical Garden José Celestino Mutis. Pérez-Arbelaezia is an open access journal that publishes full scientific articles, review papers, reflections, scientific notes, case reports and technical reports, which are submitted to peer review in a double-blind modality.
